Sounds HeardSounds HeardSounds Heard
As I lie awake I heard sounds. A creaky floorboard. Running water. Air conditioning kicking in. The house settles at night, the walls shift ever so slightly and the groan with the strain. Why does this happen? I never found out. Something scratches and mews outside my door. I think a cat wants in. Cats hate closed doors. They will scratch and meow and whine and claw and what do they do when they get in? Sniff the air and walk back out. No kitty, you will not come in today. Because not only do they sniff the air, you mark things as yours, and that isn't very nice.

ODT: Across the Years: Part 1 I first met Jones in The Before. I wasn't more than eight or nine at the time. Somewhere around that age. Jones was in his late twenties, early thirties, I guess. Hard to place his age. Looked pretty young. If I remember correctly, Jones lived under a bridge or in a homeless person's place. Like, an overnight place. He did odd jobs around the town. Cleaning the streets, washing windows, occasionally bagging at the grocery store. Dunno what he did with the money. Anyways, he tended to be pretty respectful to everyone.
